Trains & Railways in the Balearics

Route maps and booking information for the national rail service, regional trains and the urban train network: to help you find your way around Majorca, Minorca, Formentera and Ibiza.

Mallorca is the only island in the Balearics with public train services and a metro service. There is also a narrow gauge railway that runs between Palma and Sóller.

  • TIB is the government information site providing information for rail, road and sea transport in the Balearics
  • Ferrocarril de Sóller is responsible for the narrow gauge train from Palma to Sóller
Mallorca Train and Metro Network

Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca (SFM) operates two train routes across Mallorca and an underground metro service for the district of Palma. All services start and terminate at the main station in Plaça de Espana, Palma.

Train services cover the following routes:

  • Palma – Marratxi – Inca – Sa Pobla
  • Palma – Marratxi – Inca – Manacor

The Metro provides transportation between Palma and the University of the Balearic Isles (Universitat de les Illes Balears, UIB). Information on routes and timetables is available from the main station in Plaça de Espana, Palma and is displayed at all other stations.

Ferrocarril de Sóller

Ferrocarril de Sóller operates the narrow gauge railway from Palma to Sóller. Information and timetables are available from the Palma-Sóller station which is located next to the main station in Plaça de Espana, Palma de Mallorca.

Reductions & Discounts
  • Children under the age of four travel for free on SFM trains
  • A Tarjeta Dorada (Golden Ticket) is available to pensioners (over 60) and people with a 65 percent or more disability. The ticket entitles the bearer to a 40 percent reduction on the price of single or return journeys any day of the week. Those accompanying a disabled traveller also receive the discount
  • Family discounts are also available but are dependent on family size and circumstance
Animals on Trains

Animals are not permitted on trains in Mallorca.

Bicycles on Trains

Bicycles may be taken on the two SFM train routes. However, there are restrictions as to when they may be carried, and a maximum of four bicycles in any one carriage.
