English Language Media in the Balearics

A world of information, both local and global - in English. The local and international English-language print and broadcast media that is available to you if you live in Majorca, Minorca, Ibiza or Formentera.
Radio

BBC World Service can be received on digital FM 90.2 and Satellite Hot Bird 2-13º East.

  • For more information on receiving BBC World Service via satellite: Click here

The main BBC stations and other English-language radio can also be received via many satellite TV installations or over the Internet. Previously broadcast programmes can often be listened to again or downloaded.

Voice of America is also available on shortwave, with NewsNow

Radio in the Balearics

Mallorca

  • Luna Radio on 100.3 FM. Features English presenters and local news. Luna Radio can also be listened to online with "Listen Live"
  • RADIO ONE MARRATXI on 92.9 FM. Broadcasts music and information about life on Mallorca every weekend from 11:00-13:00

Ibiza

  • Hfm Ibiza 94.6 FM is an English speaking dance music radio station broadcast all year round. Also available online
  • Ibiza Sonica 95.2 FM is a dance music radio station that broadcasts all year round to Ibiza and Formentera. Can be heard online

Radio on the Internet: English-language stations online

Many radio stations stream their broadcasts on the Internet. Typically you will need RealPlayer or Windows Media Player, both of which can be downloaded.

Television

Any English-language programmes shown on Spanish TV are dubbed with Spanish. It is possible with certain programmes depending on the make of television to switch the Spanish dubbing off and watch the programme in English, other than that there are no programmes shown in English.

Alternatively, it is possible to access UK-based free-to-air (FTA) programming on the same satellite that broadcasts Sky Digital. Please note, however, that there is no legal way to access encrypted programming on that satellite while in Spain (such as Sky Digital's premium channels accessible only through a Sky subscription package, or those channels that may only be watched in the UK using a satellite receiver with a free-to-view - FTV - card installed).
