Private life: Spanish culture
The Spanish birth-rate continues to be lower than the European average (1.2 – 2004 data). This rate is increasing with the influx of immigrant families. A birth is a family event and involves visits, gifts, etc.

The life expectancy is relatively high, 76.7 years for men and 83.2 for women.

People are marrying later and later. Although most marriages are still in church, more and more marriages are being performed in registry offices. Homosexual couples have been able to marry and adopt children since 2006. Local councils normally keep registers of de facto relationships.

Rates of separation and divorce are increasing.
